General information:Brussels city centre is compact and can be easily explored by foot. The centre is made up of the Lower and Upper town, divided by a long boulevard. The Lower town features the Grand Place, a large medieval square home to the landmark town hall and a starting point from which to explore the rest of the city. There are quite a few restaurants and typical Belgian beer halls in the narrow cobbled streets to the north of the square. In the Upper town must-sees include the gothic style Cathedrale de Sts. Michel et Gudule, the Parc de Bruxelles and the Royal quarter with its palaces and museums. Getting to your hotel:By bus:From Charleroi Airport: there is a shuttle bus to the centre which operates to coincide with Ryanair flights and takes approximately 1 hour. Alternatively you can take a local bus to Charleroi train station from which there is a regular service to Brussels. Cost is approximately 12 Euros and travel time is c. 45 minutes. By rail:From Zaventem Airport: frequent shuttle train service (Airport City Express) to Gare du Nord , Gare Centrale (5 mins walk to Golden Tulip Grand Place) and Gare du Midi. Costs approx. 3 Euros for single journey, which takes approx. 20 mins. By taxi:From Gare du Midi: all our hotels are only a short taxi ride from this station (cost approx. 7 Euros to 9 Euros), but can also be reached by tram/underground in just a few stops. Getting around:Brussels city centre is compact and can be explored by foot, but if you prefer to use public transport, a one day Tourist Passport is available for approx. 5.5 Euros from the tourist information office in Grand Place and includes reductions in museums. A standard day ticket costs 3.80 Euros or you can buy tickets for 1 trip (1.40 Euros), 5 trips (6.50 Euros) or 10 trips (9.80 Euros).
