Book a cheap weekend to Hamburg >>>>>

Two thirds of Hamburg is filled with parks, tree-lined canals and lakes. The rest is a mixture of modern steel and glass structures scattered amongst the spires and domes of the old town. Choose from the carefully selected Hamburg hotels below.

General information:

Although most tourist sights are near the port (St. Pauli) or in the old town, Hamburg's city centre is not compact so take advantage of its efficient bus, metro and train system. The old town is characterised by 17th century architecture, some well restored like the Gothic St. Katharinen church. The churches of St. Jacobi, St. Petri and St. Nikolai are also must-see landmarks. In summer locals gather for a drink at the Strandperle, a stretch of beach overlooking the port, whereas in St. Pauli many visitors year-round are attracted to the Reeperbahn, a strip equivalent to Amsterdam's Red Light District. Better nightlife and good restaurants can be had in the streets leading away from there and around the port area.

Getting to your hotel:

By bus:

Hamburg airport is only 8km away from the city. The Airport Express Bus No. 110 operates every 15 minutes between Fuhlsbuttel Airport and the centre. Journey time is 20 mins and cost is c. 4.50 Euros.

By taxi:

There are also taxi ranks in front of terminals 1 and 4. A ride into the city centre costs approx. 20 Euros.

Getting around:

Hamburg has no obvious centre, but one of the liveliest areas is the harbour. There is a good public transport network, and it is worth investing in the Hamburg Card, which gives free or reduced admission into most of the city's museums (costs 6.50 Euros for a day or 13.5 Euros for 3 days).

Shopping:

By law, shops in Germany close at 8pm on weekdays, at 4pm on Saturdays and all day on Sundays. Museums and historic monuments are mainly closed on Mondays. Hamburg's main commercial and shopping district is around the Binnenalster lake and the Rathaus.
