Most of the sights in Helsinki are within walking distance, so you can stroll the boulevards and admire the architecture at the same time. Choose from the carefully selected Helsinki hotels below. General information:Helsinki's city centre is small, and concentrated on one peninsula, easily explored on foot. Near the harbour visit Kauppatori for the daily (except Sunday) outdoor market, then north of here there is Senate Square with its Russian design and Uspenski Cathedral, testaments to Helsinki's past under Russian rule. Modern art and design lovers should pay a visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma and the Designmuseo. In summertime, one event not to be missed is the Helsinki Festival, which takes place the last three weeks in August. Getting to your hotel:By bus:Helsinki's Vantaa airport is connected to the city centre by a Finnair bus service, which runs every 15-20 minutes. Cost is c. 5 Euros and journey time is 30 mins. Alternatively you can take the public bus no. 615, which costs 3 Euros. By taxi:Taxi direct to your hotel: Costs approx. 22 Euros - takes around 20 to 30 mins. Getting around:Helsinki can easily be explored by foot as the city centre is concentrated on a single peninsula. The public transport system is also excellent and the number 3T tram line is a good way to see some of the main tourist attractions in the centre (Senate Square, the National Museum, the Botanical Gardens, etc...). The Helsinki Card, available locally, offers unlimited transport and entrances to more than forty museums. Shopping:Aleksanterinkatu is one of the busiest shopping streets and shops are usually open from 9am to 6pm. There is also an open-air market on Market Square every day from 7am to 2pm (except on Sundays). Helsinki's famous department stores are Stockmann and Sokos.
