General information:

Oslo city centre is very compact and is easily explored on foot although it also offers good public transport. In the summer you can also enjoy mini-cruises around the fjord, or take a boat ride out to one of the many small islands. Karl Johans Gate is the main pedestrian shopping street in Olso, but Aker Brygge, by Oslo port is also famous for great shopping, restaurants and bars, and for more exclusive shopping and nightlife head for Bogstadveien. A more informal and artistic atmosphere can be enjoyed in the Grunerlokka area on the north-east side of the city. Those seeking a taste of local history should not miss the Viking museum just 10 minutes from the centre by boat, or guided tours of the Royal Castle or the ancient Akershus Castle.

Getting to your hotel:

By bus:

SAS provides a bus service which leaves from outside the terminal and stops in the centre (around 45 mins, NOK 70). Any hotel can then be reached by short taxi ride.

By rail:

From Oslo Gardermoen airport: There are express trains that operate to the city centre that take 20 mins. Cost is 130 NOK.
From Oslo Torp airport: Take a taxi for 120 NOK to Sandefjord, the nearest town, from which you can take fast trains into Olso.

By taxi:

From Oslo Gardermoen airport: To the city centre takes about 45 mins and costs c.800 NOK
From Oslo Torp airport: You can take a taxi for 120 NOK to Sandefjord, the nearest town, from which you can take fast trains into Olso.

Getting around:

Central Oslo is compact and can easily be covered on foot. For public transport, the Oslo Card offers unlimited travel, free admission to all museums and discounts in restaurants. It is available from your hotel or tourist offices and prices start at NOK 130 for one day.

Shopping:

Shops are open from 9.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday, and from 9.00am to 3.00pm on Saturday. They are closed on Sunday.
