Located high on the hillside of the Howth peninsula in the grounds of Howth Castle with spectacular views over Dublin Bay. The homely residents' lounge also benefits from the great views. Bedrooms decorated in pastel shades are furnished in a traditional style. Approximately 9 miles from Dublin city centre (which can be easily reached via the nearby DART) and within walking distance of the small fishing village of Howth this is a good tranquil alternative to the city centre, particularly for golfing enthusiasts.

IMI Residence: General IMI Residence

Our opinion:
Located just a short drive from Sandyford village, this hotel is situated in a large complex designed for business meetings and corporate training. There is a LUAS stop (Dublin's new tram) 1km from the hotel (steep uphill climb from the city) where a regular service operates to the city centre (journey time of approximately 20 minutes). The contemporary bedrooms offer good facilities and are decorated in light neutral shades with brighter contrasting furnishings. Guests have use of a small in house fitness room. This hotel is very obviously part of a management training centre popular with local companies but it also offers very good value for money for the leisure traveller prepared to be on the outskirts of the city centre.

Jurys Montrose: General Jurys Montrose

Our opinion:
Located approximately 10 minutes drive from the city centre adjacent to the main campus of University College Dublin. Bedrooms are relatively spacious, well maintained and furnished to a good standard. The traditional style lobby leads on to a large modern bar where carvery lunches are particularly popular and sporting events are regularly shown on the bar's numerous TV screens. The hotel's more traditional Irish bar is a more cosy option and is full of memorabilia. A frequent bus service operates to the city centre from outside the hotel making this an ideal out of town alternative.

Burlington: General Burlington

Our opinion:
Legendary large business orientated hotel located just a short walk from the city centre. Extensive conference facilities means large corporate events are often held here although the hotel's facilities are equally suited to the leisure traveller. The property's unattractive concrete exterior is in no way reflective of its smart interior. As a popular meeting venue, the large bright lobby lounge is invariably buzzing and the adjoining atmospheric Irish bar is popular with guests and locals alike. The bedrooms have been recently renovated and are now furnished in a stylish contemporary style more reflective of the hotel's favourable reputation amongst Dubliners.

Situated on O'Connell Street, this landmark property has a fantastic central location just a short walk from all the major tourist attractions. The grand hotel lobby leads into the atmospheric contemporary lobby bar, which with its large windows facing onto O'Connell Street is a popular day and evening venue with guests and locals alike. Hibernian: General Hibernian

Our opinion:
Red brick Victorian townhouse hotel dating back to the 1890's. Located in the Ballsbridge area of Dublin in a quiet residential street, this privately owned boutique hotel exudes cosiness. Throughout the property hand painted murals, original oil paintings and fresh flowers combine to create a truly homely ambience. Traditional bedrooms with antique furnishings vary in size and style, some with round windows, some with slanted ceilings. All rooms are individually styled, full of character and furnished to a high standard. With it's open fire and comfortable sofas the drawing room is the ideal place to unwind whilst the sun lounge and library are other great places of retreat. Schoolhouse: General Schoolhouse

Our opinion:
As its name suggests, this property dating back to 1861 was once a school and many of its original features have been maintained. The scholarly theme is evident throughout the hotel with little touches such as the "silent please in class" signs instead of the usual "do not disturb". William Morris style bedrooms are furnished to a very good standard with an arts and crafts feel to them. Each room is named after an Irish writer or artist and contains a corresponding photograph and brief history of the individual. The bar and restaurant are the former classrooms and with the high ceilings, wooden beams and original fire place are truly atmospheric and popular venues in their own right. A quaint, intimate hotel with lots of character located approximately ten minutes walk from Grafton Street.

Elegant contemporary style hotel located on Ormond Quay, just a short stroll from Temple Bar and overlooking the River Liffey. John Rocha was responsible for the interior decor which has a strong East meets West feel. Everything is feng shui perfect and a feeling of space, relaxation and luxury abounds.
